Beyond the surface은 사회적이면, 개인의 내적 갈등, 보이지 않는 곳 등이 제 작업의 주제입니다. 이는 불안, 두려움의 감정이 작업의 근간입니다. 살면서 누구나 느낄 수 있는 불안감을 익숙한 소재나 상황으로 상상하여 유쾌하게 표현하였습니다. 불확실하고 불안정한 현시대를 살아가는 사람들의 모습을 곤충이나 음식 사물 등을 의인화하고 변형과 조합하는 방식으로 표현하였습니다.

 작업은 일종의 메모입니다. 사물이나 상황에 대하여 상상을 하고, 떠오르는 생각이나 이미지를 바라보는 시각을 한 컷 한 컷 잡아서 시각화하고 있습니다. 주로 환각이나 상상한 것에 대하여 드로잉 한 후 페인팅으로 옮기고 있습니다. 메모하듯이 생각을 매일매일 그리고 있는 이 소형작업들은 우리 삶의 이야기를 시니컬한 시각으로 이야기하거나 은유적으로 표현합니다. 이 냉담한 시선을 유쾌하게 풀고자 밝은 색채로 표현하였으며, 유희적인 각개의 제목으로 이야기하고 있습니다.

 제 작품을 시대별로 살펴보자면, 2013년 이전의 작품들은 ‘유인도’라는 주제로 사람들이 모여 살지만 제각기 섬으로 살아가는 1인 가구 현상의 모습들을 표현하고자 하였으며 흩어진 철저히 고립된 개인의 내적인 탐구에 초점을 두었습니다. 사람이 빠진 공간의 연출로 없어진 주인공의 삶의 모습을 유추하여 다른 이의 삶의 모습에 애정 어린 관심을 가지고자 하였다면, 2013년 이후 현재까지의 작업 “Beyond the surface”은 위와 같이 불안 공포 등의 감정을 근간으로 불확실하고 불안정한 현시대를 살아가는 사람들의 모습을 곤충이나 음식 사물갖가지 상황 등을 통하여, 직설적으로 반의적으로 상상하여 표현하고 있습니다.

 The theme of my work in “Beyond the Surface” is the dark side of society, internal conflicts of the individual, places that are invisible etc. These feelings of anxiety and fear are the basis of my work. Imagining the feeling of anxiety that can be felt by anyone in the course of their lives, I expressed them in a gleeful way. The images of people living through the uncertain and unstable present age were expressed by personifying and combining insects, foods, and objects.

 Work is a kind of memo. Ienvision objects and situations, and visualize them by capturing the emerging thoughts and images one cut after another. Mainly, hallucinations and imaginations are made into drawings and then transferred into paintings. These small works where I make daily drawings of my thoughts as though taking notes, talk about the stories of our lives in a cynical or metaphorical way. To cheerfully convey this apathetic gaze, it is expressed in bright colors, and is each articulated in a playful title.

 To look at my work chronologically, the works before 2013 intended to express the state of the single-person household phenomenon in which people live together but live as their own islands through the motif of ‘Inhabited Island’, focusing on the inner exploration of the scattered and thoroughly isolated individuals. As where these works tried to have an affectionate interest in the lives of others by inferring at the missing protagonist’s form of life through the production of space without the person, “Beyond the surface” series since 2013 to the present imagines and expresses the image of people who are living with anxiety and fear in the uncertain and unstable present age, either bluntly or ironically through insects, foods, objects, and various situations as described above.

 Beyond the surface乃本人艺术作品的主题，是指社会内幕、个人的内心矛盾等看不见的部分，即焦虑、恐惧的情感是作品的基础。将每个人生活中都会感受到的焦虑不安想像成人们所熟悉的题材和情况并且愉快地表达出来。把生活在不确实不稳定的现代社会的人们形象拟人化成昆虫、食物、事物，再以变形和组合的方式去表达。

 艺术作品作业是一种记录。对事物和情况进行想像，将浮现的想法和图象，一一捕获并视觉化。并非重现而是对幻觉或者想像进行素描而后彩绘。记录似地画下每天的想法，这些小型作业将我们的生活故事用嘲讽的眼光去述说或者隐喻性地去表达。为了愉快地接受冷淡的眼光采用了鲜明的色彩，另外通过各自俏皮的标题对我们的生活在隐约之中提出问题。

 2013年以前的作品以‘有人岛’为主题，表现了人们齐聚而居却生活在各自的孤岛上的单人家庭现象，聚焦于探索这些散散落落地彻底孤立的个人内心。由缺少人的空间演绎而类推出逝去的主人公生活状态，从而使人真切地关心他人的生活。那么，2013年以后至今的作品则以焦虑不安和恐惧等情感为基础， 把生活在不确实不稳定的现代社会的人类现状，通过昆虫、食物、事物等多种状态来直接地叛逆地想像并表达出来。
